Do you think the games play tribute to the movies?

My daughter and hubby played some games that they said suck, it not only didnt follow the story, or at least a semblance of the story, butteh caharcters didnt either.
Do you all think this is typical.. I dont want to buy games for them as gifts if they are better or at leaset similar

Most movies dobn't really play much like the video games. There have been a few that make a semi-nod to the video games but honestly following the game, not really at all.

Well hello there

Some lenience is due on account of the difference in the structures of the entertainment media. What works as a video game may not necessarily work as an interesting story structure on the big screen, and vice versa.
I think we can agree that a movie or video game that made it to final release on its own merits will generally be better than any adaptation produced simply to expand the intellectual property and make money on a name that's proven itself.

Most of the movies that I have seen based on games aren’t really close with the story with on the real game. I take it that they don’t have the budget to do such film.

I think Captin' has a good point in regards to the basic difference in entertainment mediums. Unfortunately, most of the big videogame movies aren't very good because there is a fundamental difference in art forms and this doesn't often translate to the screen properly.

Another thing, I’m thinking off is that most people would know the story and thus they wouldn’t be watching anymore. This would destroy the movie.

I think games based on movies follow the basic principle that movies to that are based on books. There are always going to be differences and you really need that because it is a total different medium.

i was asking my daughter and she said teh only one that really follwoed an semblence, and you ahve to know the movie or book to make it work is the latest harry potter game.. hubby loved it..

My son has the Harry Potter game but I have never played it. You're right though the game he has does seem to follow the movie rather well.

I dislike most movies based on game and games based on movies. Like basing movies on books, they just don't compare with what you want/expect and it gives you a let down.

Some times I feel that they do not give the movie credit, but the Godfather game was the best movie-game I have seen yet.
